Mr. and Mrs. James Drascic of Sturgeon Bay will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary Oct. 29 during a special blessing with family and friends at St. Rita’s Catholic Church, followed by brunch at the Racine Country Club.
Drascic and the former Barbara Menden were married Oct. 26, 1957, in St. Edward Catholic Church.
The couple graduated together from St. Catherine’s High School in 1952. They reunited when the Korean War was over five years later.
Drascic, 83, was a carpenter/project manager.
He is a member of the Lions Club, travel groups and enjoys planting vegetable gardens.
Mrs. Drascic, 83, is a graduate of the St. Mary’s School of Nursing. She was employed by St. Mary’s Hospital as a registered nurse in the obstetrics-gynecology department, and the Racine Health Department.
She is a member of the St. Mary’s School of Nursing Alumni Association, Sturgeon Bay Women’s Club, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, YMCA Active Swim and exercise programs.
The couple said their love and respect for one another, and support and love from their families, is what has kept them together all these years.
They said their happiest moments were the birth of their children, as well as spending each day together and enjoying cottage life in Door County with family and friends.
The Racine natives retired and moved to Door County in 1996. They are members of Corpus Christi Church in Sturgeon Bay.
They have four children: Tim (Kristin) of Madison, Gretchen Glassen of Greenville, Lisa (Eric) Olesen of Racine, and Joan (Dan) Perrone of Gurnee, Ill. The Drascics have nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Another great-grandchild is due in December.
Their advice to young people getting married today: “Show your love. Be patient. Respect one another. And know each day is blessing.”
