YORKVILLE — The Racine County Fairgrounds, 19805 Durand Ave., is the setting for the 12th Half Point Historical Reenactment Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 14-15.

The name "Half Point" recalls the area as the midway stopover between Burlington and Racine in the early 1800's. Reminiscent of that stopover, re-enactors will recreate many eras of history.

Re-enactors clad in period costume will provide a glimpse of their history covering four centuries. An 1812 militia officer together with many Civil War and World War II units will bring their eras of history to life. 'Checkpoint Charlie' will return providing a replication of the Berlin Wall in the Cold War period. The 4th U.S. Artillery will be represented by Cushing's 'Battery A' who will provide cannon demonstrations. The Elisha Raymond Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution will have information available.

Stop by the the paddlemaker, woodworker, weavers and the spinner for demonstration of those skills. Browse the trade blankets for handmade products of those talents available for purchase. Find a schnitzelbunk and other tools used in building homes, barns and other structures on the frontier.

The Historical Timekeepers will describe fashions of the 1860's Civil War period. Fabrics, sewing methods and items of clothing will be featured. Re-enactors will describe civilian life during the conflict, and show and explain items collected and sent to soldiers on the battlefields.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. There is no admission fee to the family-friendly event through the generosity of Union Grove's Lions and Kiwanis clubs. Visitor entrance is through Gate 6. Donations will be accepted for the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight.
