MOUNT PLEASANT — J.D. Byrider, a national used-car company, plans to build a dealership along the Highway 20 frontage road this year.

The Mount Pleasant Plan Commission on Wednesday unanimously approved a site plan, with conditions, for a new 6,123-square-foot building at 8224 Washington Ave. The construction project on 2.9 acres should start in July and be finished in November, said Kevin Swan, director of project management for the developer, Sara Investment Real Estate of Madison.

The business franchise owner did not respond to requests for comment.

According to Carmel, Ind.-based JD Byrider, the company has both corporate and franchise dealerships totaling 160 across 33 states. The company calls itself “the largest used car and finance company franchise in the United States.”

A company spokes-woman said J.D. Byrider offers a minimum 24-month, 24,000-mile warranty covering such major components as the engine and transmission.

A company fact sheet describes its “buy here-pay here” financing option in which a customer buys a car through in-house financing rather than a traditional lender. Instead of making monthly payments to a bank, they make weekly or bi-weekly payments, usually at the dealership.

this is turning from an article about a car dealer into a competition to see who can prove whether or not it's ghetto..... why can't anyone think for themselves anymore? I see it from everyone's side and even if I dont agree I'll just point out one thing for you.
we have no control over the construction so maybe everyone should let this article to rest for now until we have more information. ghetto or not that is not the issue here. the only thing anyone should be worried about is what's best for this city. and business is good. in my eyes almost everyone posting is looking past the fact it's just a car dealer. everyone is too worried about what is ghetto. well guess what if you live in Racine county your in the ghetto and the people your down talking are members of your community. if you all are that worried about it take action instead of arguing with me on the internet.
the world is full of talkers we need more people actually stepping up to the things they claim to believe.
I guess that's what simple minded people must do to feel better about how much similar they are to the people they are claiming are the problem.. just my own thoughts.

Getting back to the subject, this dealership is not a good thing. I'm sure it will do well here though b/c Racine has a lot of good clientele for it.

I think the car dealership is a good idea. any business is good business for Racine to me. I don't see how anyone would see it as a negative for people to have vehicles. I see lots of people who claim to care so much about the good interest of this city, but you are all forgetting that the "riff raff" and " drug dealers " are pretty much just your way of saying blacks or the lower class which if you actually looked at our city you would see that those people make up most of the population or atleast a good amount of it and if you care so much about this city no matter what area you should see it in the positive way that maybe having vehicles can help people get jobs, go to school, drive a child to the doctor.... I'm on no ones side but I think if something helps people it's a good thing. maybe think more about what your saying captain Caledonia.....

Caledonia is way nicer than Racine, Sturtavent and Mt Pleasant. And it's close to OC and Franklin, so you can shop there. Send the kids to private schools.

you're all forgetting one thing. no matter if your in Mount pleasant, Racine, Caledonia your still in the same place. you think Caledonia is so nice? what are you a 75 year old shut in? Caledonia is almost worse instead of having real gangs and "riff raff" you have a bunch of posers that act even worse than the problem people any other side of town. this is a poor persons city. even your 250k houses can't cover up the fact you have to bring a gun with you grocery shopping.. idiots. let them have the little car dealer I'm sure someone will just rob the mf anyways..

Amazing comments. It may help to know that this dealership will not be in Caledonia OR Racine. The article did a great job of identifying the location of the dealership at 8224 Washington Avenue. Those being informed would realize this is in Mount Pleasant. So, all those comments about the Mayor and other Racine related subjects should now be null and void. Those of us in Mount Pleasant appreciate the positive impact to our Village of additional businesses and the additional jobs it brings along with it.

Why do ppl get so upset that Caledonia doesn't want businesses there, especially a low class used car chain? Ppl live in Caledonia to escape the city life and avoid the riff-raff from invading.

They will ruin this city faster then our Mayor. They pray on people with financial problems.

WRONG! People have a choice - shop at J.D. Byrider OR not.

People DON'T have a choice when it comes to John Dickert - until the next election at least. He controls the budget, has borrowed tens of millions of $$$, and wasted tens of Millions of $$$, throwing it down a Black Hole with NO return, except more debt misery for the People, cut services, increased taxes and increased fees. Living the Dream by Looting a City of Ill Repute.

It is IRONIC that Racine's Mayor shares the same set of initials as a used car dealership that has received so much scorn for alleged deceptive practices, lying and corruption. The Mayor has already ruined the City - it's just taking time for it to work it's way through the system.

BTW - for The JT - they just hit the *JACKPOT* for future advertising revenues with J.D. Byryder.

That's probably due to the fact they can't spell and they speak phonetically -- they figured Caledonia was way out west and would take 3 days to get there by car.

NOW we know this going to become a larger ghetto. Nothing like bringing in a company that capitalizes on the poor or less fortunate. Why not just expand a national PayDay/Loan Store hub here? WHAT a joke.
